The rights of property over people were built into the Constitution from its inception. The slavemaster form began to be replaced by the corporate class after the civil war. In 2001 Richard Grossman wrote, “When corporations wield the Constitution—triggering the armed might of the nation against people seeking to function as self-governing—they strip humans of our ability to govern ourselves.
